Located in the heart of the Dalmatian region is the Croatian city Split. With over 200,000 inhabitants, it is the second largest city in Croatia. Tourism and shipbuilding are the most important economic sectors of the city. The port is also the centre of maritime traffic between the islands and the coast. The Diocletian's Palace and the ancient cityscape add a special charm to this special port city. In 1979 UNESCO declared both the palace of Emperor Diocletian and the city centre of Split a World Heritage Site.
